Low Dose Allergy Immunotherapy (LDA) Provides Relief of Immune Reactions to Environmental Inhalant Allergies

Low Dose Allergy Immunotherapy (LDA) and Allergies | Lomita | TorranceAllergy occurs when the immune system is no longer in a position to tolerate its external environment. Similarly, when the immune system is unable to tolerate the body’s internal environment, it causes autoimmune disease. Low dose allergy immunotherapy (LDA) can help restore immune system tolerance to the external as well as internal body environments.

A number of compounding pharmacy experts now recommend LDA to provide relief from immune reactions to environmental inhalant allergies, such as dog, dust, mold, and Hay fever as well as chemical sensitivities. American Integrative Pharmacy (AIP), led by Dr. Neema Yazdanpanah, provides LDA treatments to patients in Long Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles, South Bay Orange County, Southern California areas, and nationwide.

What is LDA?

LDA is an extremely low dose immunotherapy that involves the use of broad based mixtures of allergens made immunologically active by the enzyme glucuronidase. Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization (EPD) was originally developed by Dr. Popper, an EENT physician working in London. LDA is now recommended as an effective treatment in integrative pharmacy to address environmental allergies.

Dr. Popper discovered that “Hyaluronidase” injected into the nasal mucosa of patients with nasal polyps relieved allergy symptoms. In 1967, Dr. McEwen of London showed that the enzyme “beta glucuronidase” derived from hyaluronidase had desensitizing activity. Beta glucuronidase mixed with a tiny dose of allergen could halt allergy reactions by restoring tolerance in the T cells of the immune system.

How it Works?

Once the LDA is administered in controlled low dose, it will lead to an increase in the T regulator cells or Treg. These Treg cells can address the faulty cellular responses to materials promoted by the helper CD4, killer CD8, and B Cells, where the immune system has been trying to protect the individual from environmental inhalants and other allergens. Simply put, this switches off the adverse or allergic response.

This treatment approach is in contrast to the standard immunotherapy (SIT) practiced in the US where an increased use of allergen doses is made over time. The treatment with SIT is required in much higher frequency, it cannot be used for foods, and it typically stops working when the treatment is stopped.

Beta glucuronidase is recognized as modifier of the natural biological response modifier, and is considered to be a significant physiological up regulator of the lymphocytic immune system. Current research shows that LDA can restore the natural active cellular immune tolerance to specific environmental antigens (allergens), which have become deregulated in external environmental allergy as well as autoimmune disease.

Safety Recommendations

For patients with environmental and chemically triggered symptoms, it is vital enhance the environmental controls in order to minimize the contacts beginning two days before the LDA injection. Patients with these types of environmental allergies must avoid dogs and cats, and clean a moldy or dusty habitat to make it free of mold and dust well before the LDA injection.

They should also avoid using perfumes and fabric softeners. AIP provides both traditional and modern compounding solutions, including online prescription refills, to patients in Long Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles, South Bay Orange County, Southern California areas, and nationwide.
