How to use Tadalafil
Before starting tadalafil and each time they get a refill, patients should read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by their pharmacist. In case of questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
This medication is to be taken by mouth, with or without food, as directed by the physician. Patients should not take tadalafil more than once a day.
The dosage will be based on a patient’s specific condition, response to treatment, and other drugs they may be taking.
If the patient is also taking finasteride in combination with this drug to address BPH symptoms, they should consult their doctor on how long they should continue taking this medication.
Tadalafil may be prescribed in two ways to address erectile dysfunction-ED. The doctor will determine which way is most appropriate for the patient to take tadalafil.
Patients should follow their doctor’s instructions exactly as their dosage depends on how they are taking it. The first way to take this drug is to take it as required, typically at least 30 minutes prior to sexual activity. The effect of tadalafil on sexual ability may sustain for up to 36 hours.
The second method to treat ED is to take tadalafil on a regular basis, once daily-every day. Patients taking it in this manner may attempt sexual activity at any time between their doses.
Patients taking tadalafil to treat ED as well as BPH should take it as instructed by their physician, typically once daily. They may attempt sexual activity at any time between their doses.
If the patient takes tadalafil one time a day for BPH, or for ED, or for both, they should take it routinely to derive the most benefit from this medication. It can be helpful to take it at the same time each day to help remember to take it.
Side Effects
Some patients may experience back pain, headache, stomach upset, stuffy nose, muscle pain, dizziness, or flushing. In case such effects persist or become worse, the patient should promptly contact their doctor or pharmacist.
The patient should rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to reduce the risk of lightheadedness and dizziness.
It is important for patients to remember that their doctor has prescribed this drug as they believe that the benefit outweighs the risk of side-effects for the patient. Many individuals on this medication do not experience significant side-effects.
