Podiatry Medications – Refill Prescriptions Online

Podiatry Medications

A number of skin-related disorders are encountered by podiatrists and other health care professionals, which can be combated with compounded medications. At AIP, the pharmacists prepare custom formulations that meet the specific needs of prescribers and their patient population. We are also known for creating tried and true formulas as taught during professional training.

Penetrant enhancers can be added to formulas for improving the absorption extent of topically applied medications. Several different compatible medications can be combined into a single dose form for easy administration. Synergistic effect is achieved when different medications get used concomitantly.

American Integrative Pharmacy (AIP), led by Dr. Neema Yazdanpanah, provides safe and proven compounding medications to patients in Long Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles, South Bay Orange County, Southern California areas, and online nationwide.

Anti-Fungal Therapy

Dry and cracked skin surrounding heel fissures and plantar surface on the feet commonly get fungal infections. Hyperkeratosis is of different etiologies. It can be difficult to treat chronic conditions. However, according to a study, 100% cure rate was achieved in a dozen patients that had moccasin tinea pedis. The 12 patients were treated with a topical application of 40% urea cream and antifungal cream concomitantly for 2 – 3 weeks.

Athlete’s Foot

There are several synergistic combinations in use in antifungal therapy. Ibuprofen is effective in treating candidiasis when used alone or combined with azoles. Ibuprofen has antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties that help heal athlete’s foot when applied topically.

Diabetic Neuropathy

A wide variety of conditions involves neuropathic pain including diabetic neuropathy. Optimal treatment may involve the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opioids, and other analgesics. It may also include pain-relieving medications, antiviral agents, anticonvulsants, antiarrhythmics, antidepressants, anesthetics, and NMDA antagonists.

Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum contagiosum and resistant warts can be treated successfully with compounded topical medications. Discomfort associated with laser therapy, electrocautery, scraping and freezing can be avoided altogether. According to a study, 5% KOH aqueous solution was found to be less irritating and equally effective as compared to a 10% KOH solution. Effectiveness of topically applying KOH In treating molluscum contagiosum was also emphasized by the trial.

Nail Removal

Surgical excision is a highly popular approach for removing nails. However, applying concentrated urea plasters under occlusion is fast becoming a superior alternative. There are several advantages to using urea plasters, such as treating several nails in one session, being inexpensive and essentially painless.

Various topical medications and synergistic combinations with penetrant enhancers can be used as antifungal therapy. There is lower adverse drug-reaction profile in topical medications as compared to systemic medications.

Warts

Dermatologists have used cantharidin in a collodion vehicle for treating warts since the 50s. In 1962, cantharidin lost its FDA approval since the manufacturers failed to submit data regarding its efficacy. However, cantharidin was included by the FDA in 1999 as part of its “Bulk Substances List” of drugs. These are not commercially available, but are approved for compounding. Cantharidin is potentially toxic, which is why the FDA proposed limiting its topical use.
