What is Ketoprofen Cream used for?

What is Ketoprofen Cream used for? | Lomita | Orange CountyKetoprofen is used for pain relief from various conditions, and it also reduces the inflammation, pain, and joint stiffness occurring due to arthritis.

This medicine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It impedes the body’s production of specific natural substances that cause inflammation, which helps reduce inflammation, pain, or fever.

In the treatment of a chronic condition such as arthritis, the patient should ask their doctor about non-drug treatments and/or using other medicines to treat their pain.

American Integrative Pharmacy (AIP), led by Dr. Neema Yazdanpanah, provides safe and proven compounding pharmacy treatments to patients in Long Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles, South Bay Orange County, Southern California areas, and nationwide.

What Conditions does Ketoprofen Treat?

  • Joint Damage leading to pain and loss of function
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Joint Inflammatory disease in children and young adults
  • Pain
  • Painful periods
  • Non-Radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis
  • Gout
  • Rheumatic disease causing backbone pain and stiffness
  • Headache caused by a disorder of cranial blood vessels

How to use Ketoprofen

This drug is taken orally, typically three to four times daily with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters), or as instructed by the doctor. The patient should not lie down for at least ten minutes after taking this medication. In case the patient experiences an upset stomach while taking this medicine, they should take it with milk, food, or an antacid.

The dosage is based on the patient’s medical condition and response to treatment. Taking this medication at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration lowers the risk of stomach bleeding and other side-effects. The patient should not increase their dose, take it more often, or take it for a longer duration than prescribed.

It is not advisable to take the over-the-counter product for more than ten days unless otherwise prescribed. For chronic conditions such as arthritis, the patient should continue to take this drug as prescribed by their doctor. They should also discuss the risks and advantages with their physician or pharmacist.

If the patient is taking this medication “as required,” or not on a regular schedule, they should understand that pain drugs work most effectively if used as the first indications of pain occur. The medication may not work well if they wait until the pain has worsened.

In case the patient is taking this drug for migraine headache, and they do not experience pain relief, or if the pain becomes worse after the first dose, they should tell their doctor promptly.

For some conditions, such as arthritis, it may take up to two weeks of taking this medication routinely until the patient derives the full benefit.

In case the condition worsens, or if the patient develops new symptoms, or if they feel that they may have a serious health issue, they should seek immediate medical care.

Side Effects

This drug may cause side effects such as an upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, loss of appetite, drowsiness, or headache. In case any of these side-effects persist or worsen, the patient should contact their physician or pharmacist in a prompt manner.

If the doctor has directed the patient to use this drug, they have adjudged that the benefit to the patient outweighs the risk of side effects. Many individuals using this medicine do not experience serious side effects.

This drug may raise blood pressure. The patient should check their blood pressure routinely and contact their doctor if it is high.

If the patient experiences any of these unlikely but serious side effects, they should contact their doctor immediately:

  • Fainting
  • Fast/pounding heartbeat
  • Changes in hearing
  • A persistent or severe headache
