Numbing Cream

BLT pain creamBLT numbing cream combines the power of benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine in a single cream, which is applied prior to a permanent makeup, tattoo or such other procedures.

There are various formulations available. However, the standard strengths are benzocaine 20%, lidocaine 6%, and tetracaine 4%.

Many minimally invasive skin procedures such as microblading, micro needling, and laser resurfacing also involve the use of BLT cream. BLT cream is powerful enough to rapidly numb the skin with more sustainability than OTC numbing products.

American Integrative Pharmacy (AIP), led by the committed Dr. Neema Yazdanpanah, provides safe and proven compounding treatments to patients in Long Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles, South Bay Orange County, Southern California areas, and one side of the country to the other.

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup application offers a clean and consistent appearance for make that will not fade away. It involves the same process as permanently inking a tattoo in the skin.

As this procedure can be painful, treatment providers often use a numbing cream to make the process more comfortable. BLT cream is an excellent permanent makeup numbing cream. It is a robust combination of 3 anesthetic components in a single formulation.

Why Does a Permanent Makeup Procedure Require Numbing Cream?

The pain associated with a permanent makeup procedure is similar to tattooing as the procedures are effectively the same. Permanent makeup can be more accurately termed as “cosmetic tattooing.” The provider uses fine needles to insert ink into the skin’s dermis. This is what makes the ink long lasting.

It can be uncomfortable and painful for the patient which makes it challenging for patients to endure the full session. The discomfort of a patient can render the procedure difficult for the provider as well. A numbing cream containing various anesthetic ingredients can make the procedure more comfortable and improve the results.

OTC Numbing Creams have Low Strength

Common OTC numbing creams available online without the need for a prescription contain anesthetics with much lower strengths. Such creams will not be as effective in rendering the treatment pain free.

Some examples of OTC numbing creams are a lidocaine 4%, tetracaine 2%, epinephrine 0.02% cream and a benzocaine 5%, lidocaine 2%, tetracaine 2% cream. OTC creams usually contain merely ¼ of the benzocaine, 1/3 of the lidocaine and ½ of the tetracaine of prescription BLT cream.

How is BLT Numbing Cream Applied?

The treatment provider will apply the BLT cream to the skin 15 minutes prior to the permanent makeup procedure. They will allow the cream to sit for 15 minutes before wiping it off. The cream should be used only to numb a tiny area at a time. In some cases, the treatment warrants a more significant area to be numbed.

This should be undertaken in sections rather than in one instance. This restricts the toxicity of the numbing agents and allows the skin to remain numbed throughout the procedure. In using the cream to numb a large area, the effect may wear off by the time the provider reaches the end of the site. After taking effect, the anesthetic effects last for around 20 to 30 minutes.
