Pain Management

Pain Management creamFor sustainable pain relief, a compounded medication comprising cyclobenzaprine (a muscle relaxant); gabapentin (a nerve relaxant); ketoprofen (a pain reliever that addresses inflammation) and lidocaine (a topical anesthetic) can be used effectively.

This advanced compounding pain cream aids in the treatment of various conditions that cause pain and inflammation.

The formulation works by inhibiting the production of certain natural chemicals in the body which can result in pain and inflammation. On applying this pain cream to the skin, it works only on the site of the application rather than impacting the entire body.

The medication is absorbed into the skin and then penetrates deeper into sites of the body where there is swelling (for instance, a muscle). In using a skin cream, the overall amount of ketoprofen, gabapentin, and cyclobenzaprine in the body remains at a low level. Consequently, the risk of side effects is significantly reduced.

American Integrative Pharmacy (AIP), led by Dr. Neema Yazdanpanah, provides safe and proven compounding treatments to patients in Long Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles, South Bay Orange County, Southern California areas, and nationwide.

Ketoprofen

Ketoprofen reduces inflammation and pain in conditions such as sprains and strains, gout, and arthritis. Furthermore, it is effective for pain relief during menstruation (period) pain as well as after surgery.

Ketoprofen blocks the effect of natural chemicals known as cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. These enzymes enable the production of other chemicals, namely prostaglandins, in the body.

Certain prostaglandins are manufactured in the area of damage or injury leading to pain and swelling. The obstruction of the effect of COX enzymes produces fewer prostaglandins. This relieves pain and inflammation. The patient can apply ketoprofen-based creams directly to their skin for muscle and joint pain relief.

Gabapentin

Gabapentin Topical helps treat neuropathic pain. It reduces pain by controlling the calcium channel activity of the nerve cells.

Gabapentin is an analog of GABA (gamma- amino butyric acid) which means that it can adequately address fits and pain caused by nerve irritation or damage. Gabapentin is not a benzodiazepine or opiate or NSAID. It is a safe topical medication if the patient uses it as prescribed by the doctor.

This medication also offers nerve pain relief after shingles (a painful rash caused by a herpes zoster infection) in adults. Gabapentin is widely considered an anticonvulsant medication.

  • The patient should apply a thin layer of the gel and massage it gently into the affected site. They should wash their hands thoroughly after using the gel (unless it has been applied for treating the hands).
  • The physician or pharmacist will provide the patient with gel usage instructions, including how often to use it. The patient will need to apply it between 2 to 4 times daily for up to 7 days.
  • In case the patient forgets to apply the gel at the usual time, they can use it when they remember and continue as usual.
